Could cult movie The Matrix have existed if Bruce Lee had not?
The Matrix, backed by a big Hollywood budget, was a groundbreaking action movie which cleverly blended cutting-edge western technology with the aesthetics ofHong Kong cinema’s combat sequences. Many of Neo’s gestures and poses were direct references to Bruce Lee, and the fight choreography heavily borrowed from Hong Kong movies.
The result was a stunning film that sparked interest worldwide in martial arts, as did Enter the Dragon, the first martial arts film produced by a major Hollywood studio.
This artwork is a tribute to the enduring impact Bruce Lee has on the action film genre and the uber cool of The Matrix.
